Tattoo Ideas

There are a number of things to consider when you are thinking about getting a tattoo. Here are some ideas to help you with your decision.

If you want a more unusual design then you should steer away of the most popular tattoos, such as stars, flowers or tribal patterns. It is a good idea to think of something that has some personal meaning for you, rather than go for what is fashionable at the moment. You should also try and avoid commemorating anything that is unlikely to have a lasting importance in your life- such as someone's name, or some reference to pop culture. You are choosing something that will last for the rest of your life, so take some time over it. You might even want to create your own design, if you have any artistic talent, or get someone you know to help you out.

You will also need to consider where you are going to have your tattoo. Think about who you want to be able to see it. If you want to admire it easily yourself, for example, don't get it put on your back. If you want everybody to be able to see it then get it somewhere that won't always be hidden by your clothes, but if you may want to conceal it in some situations then make sure you get it in a place that can be covered up- such as your shoulder. The lower back is a popular place for tattoos as it can be either revealed or concealed according to the situation. If you want to keep your tattoo secret, or to share it with just the most intimate acquaintances, then get it somewhere you would never reveal in public.

When you are deciding on what tattoo to get and where to have it there are a few things you should remember. Firstly, that this is a permanent decision so you should think in the long term. Second, that your tattoo will probably change a little as you age, for example the colors may fade, and third, that you might want to restrict yourself to something more subtle and easy to conceal if you are going to be applying for jobs from people who may not be so keen on tattooed employees.

You might also want to think about where it will be least painful to get a tattoo. Don't choose anywhere you are too sensitive. Fleshy areas will usually be more painful, as will anywhere with particularly delicate skin, such as the face. You should remember that it will take some time for your skin to heal after you get your tattoo and if you choose to get it in a place that is likely to be knocked or rubbed by clothing then this could take longer.

If you want to get a very large or elaborate design then you may need to get it done in stages.
